Confederation Drawbacks

The drawback of confederations is that migration from a nonconfederation to a confederation design requires major reconfiguration of the routers and a major change in the logical topology. In addition, routing through a confederation might not take an optimal path without manually setting BGP policies. Figure 9-10 illustrates this issue. Figure 9-10. AS Confederation Internal and External Routing   Confederation 100 is composed of three sub-ASs: 65010, 65020, and 65030...

The Internet NAPs

The network access points (NAPs) were intended as the key peering points for NSPs that provided core routing services for the NFSNET's regional distribution networks. The NAPs were modeled on the FIXs, which were used to connect the Big Four during the operation of the NSFNET backbone. Traffic within the NAPs, however, was supposed to operate freely of the acceptable usage policy (AUP).   Although the NSF NAP Manager solicitation had some admirable goals in statis..

Setting SNMP Queue Size

The following command increases the size of a router's SNMP trap queue: Router#configure terminal Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z. Router(config)#snmp-server queue-length 25 Router(config)#end Router# To increase the size of the router's SNMP inform queue, use the following configuration command: Router#configure terminal Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z. Router(config)#snmp-server inform pending 40 Router(..

Enabling Secure HTTP (HTTPS) Access to a Router

The Secure HTTP feature provides you with a secure and encrypted method to access the router via a web browser using Secure Sockets Layer and Transport Layer Security. This prevents HTTP sessions from being intercepted or attacked. By default, the router creates a self-signed digital certificate that is required for secure access. The router adds the digital certificate to its configuration: Router2#show running-config | section crypto crypto pki trustpoint TP-self-signed-261..

Configuring a DHCP Database Client

You can ensure your DHCP address assignments are not lost when a router reloads by configuring the router to periodically copy its DHCP database to a remote server. The first example configures a router to use FTP to copy the DHCP database to a remote server: Router1#configure terminal Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z. Router1(config)#ip dhcp database ftp://dhcp:bindsave@172.25.1.1/dhcp-leases Router1(config)#end Router1# The second ex..
