Redistribution Using Default Settings

The first example configuration meets the following design goals: ■ R1 redistributes between each pair of IGPs—RIP, EIGRP, and OSPF. ■ Default metrics are used whenever possible; when required, the metrics are configured on the redistribute command. ■ Redistribution into OSPF uses the non-default subnets parameter, which causes subnets to be advertised into OSPF. ■ All other settings use default values. Example 11-1 shows R1’s configuration for each routing..

Dedicated Internet Access

Dedicated Internet access is commonly provided at speeds of 56 kbps or 64 kbps up to T1/E1 lines (1.5 and 2 Mbps, respectively) on the lower end and T3/E3 (45 and 34 Mbps, respectively) and OC3 (155 Mbps) on the higher end. Dedicated Internet access providers are also beginning to provide OC12 (622 Mbps) and even OC48 (2.5 Gbps) high-speed access services. Dedicated access connections are used when bandwidth utilization is predictable and the frequency of network access is hi..

Auto-RP

The mechanisms of BSR and candidate RPs are quite complicated. Cisco offers an elegant and simple alternative called auto-RP.   To enable auto-RP, configure all RP routers to advertise active groups via the ip pim send-rp- announce global configuration command, as follows:  ip pim send-rp-announce loopback 1 scope 16  These announcements are sent to the well-known group address CISCO-RP-ANNOUNCE  (224.0.1.39).  Loopback 1 is an RP address a..

IEEE 802.11 DCF

Interframe Spaces, shown in Figure 11-3, allow 802.11 to control which traffic gets first access to the channel when carrier sense declares the channel to be free. Figure 11-3. IEEE 802.11 DCF Interframe Spaces [View full size image]     802.11 currently defines three interframe spaces: •    Short interframe spaces (SIFS), which are 10  long •    Point interframe spaces (PIFS), which are 30  long (SIFS + 1 [20 ] slot time..

NTP Authentication

Use the ntp authentication command to authenticate NTP traffic between associations. To configure an NTP enabled router to require authentication when other devices connect to it, use the following commands: Router1#configure terminal Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z. Router1(config)#ntp authentication-key 2 md5 oreilly Router1(config)#ntp authenticate Router1(config)#ntp trusted-key 2 Router1(config)#end Router1# Then you must configure th..
