The show clns neighbors Command

The show clns neighbors command includes some of the contents of the neighbor table and the state of the link. Note that the subnetwork point of attachment (SNPA) is the MAC address of the interface. Level 1-2 routing is used. The command has the following syntax:  show clns area-tag neighbors [type number] [area] [detail]  Table 10-2 explains the syntax of this command.  Table 10-2. Stub Routers

Cisco IOS software release 12.0 made it possible for you to configure a remote router as an EIGRP stub router. Stub routers in EIGRP networks use EIGRP to send limited information between the stub and the core routers. A stub router is typically used on routers to minimize memory and processor utilization; as such it is a good candidate for slow routers with minimal memory.   The stub router has only one neighbor, a distribution layer router. The remote router onl..

KEEPALIVE Messages

KEEPALIVE messages are comprised only of the 19-byte BGP message header shown in Figure 11-3. These are exchanged whenever an update-free period exceeds the holdtime negotiated in the OPEN message exchange. A KEEPALIVE is also sent to acknowledge the OPEN message before moving from the OPEN_SENT to ESTABLISHED session state. If the holdtime is zero, KEEPALIVE messages are not sent, except to acknowledge an OPEN.   TIP   The minimum keepalive period is ..

Moving Users in VLANs

VLANs reduce the problems associated with moving a user in a legacy network from one location to another. As you move a user in a legacy network, you need to consider many factors. In a VLAN, however, a number of the factors disappear. Consider the following example in Figure 5-12. Figure 5-12. Moving a User in a Legacy Network   Figure 5-12 shows Station A attached to Network A in a legacy network. The user's highly educated, capable, and rational manager decides that ..

Dynamic VLANs

Dynamic VLANs provide membership based on the MAC address of an end-user device. When a device is connected to a switch port, the switch must, in effect, query a database to establish VLAN membership. A network administrator also must assign the user’s MAC address to a VLAN in the database of a VLAN Membership Policy Server (VMPS). With Cisco switches, dynamic VLANs are created and managed using network-management tools such as CiscoWorks. Dynamic VLANs allow a great ..
