Avoiding Problems with Network Convergence When Redistributing
A major concern is the computation of the routing table and how long it takes the network to converge. Although EIGRP is renowned for its speed in convergence, RIP is fairly slow. Sharing network information between the two might cause problems. For example, the network converges at the speed of the slower protocol. At some point, this will create timeouts and possibly routing loops. Adjusting the timers might solve the problems, but any routing protocol configu..
This section covers the concepts behind four separate methods for finding the RP. Three are specific configuration features, namely static configuration, Auto-RP, and BSR. The fourth, Anycast RP, actually uses any of the first three methods, but with the design that includes having the RPs use the same unicast IP address to achieve better redundancy features. Table 20-3 summarizes the methods of finding the RP with PIM-SM. Table 20-3 Comparison of Methods of Finding the RP
Early VLAN designs relied on routers connected to VLAN-capable switches in the manner shown in Figure 11-1. Figure 11-1. Router-on-a-Stick Design In this approach, traditional routers are connected via one or more links to a switched network. Figure 11-1 shows a single link, the stick, connecting the router to the rest of the campus network. Inter-VLAN traffic must cross the Layer 2 backbone to reach the router where it can move between VLANs. It then travels ba..
To automatically adjust the router time to account for the new extended Daylight Saving Time, starting in March 2007, use the following commands: Router2#configure terminal Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z. Router2(config)#clock timezone EST -5 Router2(config)#clock summer-time EDT recurring 2 Sun Mar 2:00 1 Sun Nov 2:00 Router2(config)#end Router2# The U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005 includes changes to extend Daylight Saving Time (DST) by ..
Frame Relay Forum Implementation Agreement Document Number FRF.8.1
A couple of years after the Frame Relay Implementation Agreement Document Number FRF.5 was introduced, the Frame Relay Forum and ATM Forum outlined the Frame Relay to ATM Service Interworking specifications. These are defined in the Frame Relay Forum Implementation Agreement Document Number FRF.8.1. The complete FRF.8.1 documentation can be downloaded from the Frame Relay Forum's public web site at http://www.mplsforum.org/frame/Approved/FRF.8/FRF.8.1.pdf. The new FRF.8.1 im..
