Determining the Contents of Updates

A router builds the contents of its Update messages based on the contents of its BGP table. However, the router must choose which subset of its BGP table entries to advertise to each neighbor, with the set likely varying from neighbor to neighbor. Table 12-8 summarizes the rules about which routes BGP does not include in routing updates to each neighbor; each rule is described more fully following the table. Table 12-8 Summary of Rules Regarding Which Routes BGP Does Not Inc..

FCC Rules

In general, the U.S. FCC does not require users to license wireless LAN products, assuming that the user does not exceed certain emission limits. The FCC uses Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) as a factor for determining whether a wireless LAN is in compliance with regulatory rules. EIRP equals the transmit power (in dBm) minus cable and connector losses (in dB) and plus the antenna gain (in dB). For 802.11b/g access points and radio cards, the EIRP can be up to 36 dB..

Time-Stamping Router Logs

The service timestamp global configuration command enables timestamps on debug and logging messages. Use the log keyword to turn on time-stamping of log messages: Router#configure terminal Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z. Router(config)#service timestamps log datetime localtime Router(config)#end Router# The command to turn on timestamps for debug messages is similar, but uses the debug keyword: Router#configure terminal Enter configuratio..

Loop Guard

Suppose that a switch port is receiving BPDUs and the switch port is in the Blocking state. The port makes up a redundant path; it is blocking because it is neither a root port nor a designated port. It will remain in the Blocking state as long as a steady flow of BPDUs is received. If BPDUs are being sent over a link but the flow of BPDUs stops for some reason, the lastknown BPDU is kept until the Max Age timer expires. Then that BPDU is flushed, and the switch thinks..

Foreign Agent Configuration

Here is a minimal configuration for a Foreign Agent to support Mobile Nodes: RouterForeign#configure terminal Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z. RouterForeign(config)#router mobile RouterForeign(config-router)#exit RouterForeign(config)#router eigrp 99 RouterForeign(config-router)#network 192.168.110.0 RouterForeign(config-router)#no auto-summary RouterForeign(config-router)#exit RouterForeign(config)#interface Ethernet0/0 RouterForei..
